Greetings Griffin families,

Now that students have settled into their Semester Two classes, we look forward to our first full week of school this week.   As a complement to all the detailed information found on the Ernest Manning High School website, here is your Weekly Rundown for February 3-7.

Yearbook Ordering Deadline Approaching

This year, our deadline for yearbook ordering is the end of February, as opposed to end of May as it was last year. If you haven’t ordered a yearbook yet, please find information on how to do so here.

2025-26 Instructional Calendar Approved

In order to support our families in your long-term planning, the 2025-26 Instructional Calendar has been published for your reference.

Semester One Textbook Return

If your children have forgotten to hand in any Semester One textbooks or course materials, please encourage them to do so in the Learning Commons as soon as possible. Semester Two students will need those resources. Once materials are returned, the deposit charged to families will be removed.

Lunar New Year Activities

This week our Chinese Language and Culture students together with our Asian Club will be hosting a variety of events for students to recognize the Lunar New Year.  Please encourage your child to attend Wednesday and Thursday mornings before class, and at lunch!

Language Course Challenge

Grade 12 students hoping to complete a 30-level language course challenge this semester are encouraged to see Ms Roussy in Room 2103 and watch the portals for an information meeting this week. Students attend two Saturday writings, and earn up to 15 credits and a high mark for post-secondary.

April Diploma Exam Registration

In collaboration with Western Canada High School, Manning will be offering April Diploma Exams for the following students:

  1. Students in our ELA 30-2/ 30-1 hybrid course
  2. Students who have completed a diploma course but not yet written their exam

If you are one of those students, or have questions about Diploma Exam writing,  please see Ms Waringer in the office. Students writing in April must sign up with Ms. Waringer. Deadline to sign up is Feb 14.

High School Youth Researcher Summer Program

The Research Services Office from the University of Calgary is now accepting applications from Grade 11 high school students for the 2025 Alberta Innovates High School Youth Researcher Summer (HYRS) program.

OFF-CAMPUS EDUCATION

Calgary CAREERS Fair: Come connect with employers who are passionate about empowering Alberta’s youth through exciting internship opportunities. This free event is open to teachers, parents, students, and family members – a perfect chance to explore careers, build networks, and discover the future of skilled trades.

Unique Pathways Information Night:

Interested in Dual Credit opportunities with post-secondary institutions? Want to start an apprenticeship, or begin learning a specific trade or pathway as part of your high school program? Want to be industry ready by graduation?

Families are encouraged to attend the Unique Pathways Information Night which will launch the beginning of the next application season for Summer and Fall 2025 programs. Details are as follows:
