Ernest Manning Weekly Rundown
Sep 15 - Sep 19
Greetings Griffin Families!
Hard to believe we just finished our first FULL week of classes. With all the activities already occurring around the building, it feels very much like we are in full swing.
With start up come questions from families, and we encourage you to keep sending them our way. To help direct your inquiries to the best person or department, we have created an EMHS Communication Cheat Sheet as your quick guide for support. We encourage you to download a copy for yourself for ease of access.
As a complement to all of the detailed information on our website, below are some highlights of upcoming activities at EMHS.
EMTV Weekly Rundown
Stay tuned for the first wrap up of the season at the end of next week.
SCHOOL COUNCIL CONNECTIONS
School Council plays an important role in supporting student success, providing funding and logistical support to various school-based initiatives, as well as valuable feedback in strategic direction. All parent(s)/guardian(s) are invited to attend the first School Council meeting of 2025/26 on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at @6pm. Please use this link to register. Parent Lending Library
Thanks to the generosity of our Parent Council, we are pleased to be able to offer a new lending library of books of interest to high school parents. Next time you are in the office, feel free to browse our selection of titles and borrow one that interests you.
Bike/ Scooter Lock Up
Last week, 40% of bikes in our bike rack had U-Locks or other theft-deterrent chains. 100% of bikes taken to date have had cable locks.
Unfortunately, Ernest Manning is not immune from bike and scooter thefts. Though we are able to capture video surveillance of the theft to aid in recovery, the best way to deter thieves is to secure your bike with a U-lock or other theft-deterrant lock. For more information consult this article from Bike Calgary. Love your bike? Lock it right!
Students with a Half-Day Schedule
From time-to-time students nearing graduation will have a half-day schedule for a variety of reasons. Due to our very busy hallways this year (we have over 2000 students attending classes), students with half-day schedules are reminded to be at home until their classes start and go home once they end.
EMMPA AGM Notice of Date Change
The Annual General Meeting of Ernest Manning Music Parent Association (EMMPA) will be held on Monday, September 22, at 7:00 pm in the band room (Room 1415). At this meeting, the Board of Directors will provide a report about the 2025-2026 school year, information about our upcoming year, and elect a new Board of Directors. This is a mandatory meeting for all the parents of students in the Ernest Manning Music Program. For any inquiries about the Music Parents’ Association, please contact Viviana Pacheco at emmpaassistant@gmail.com.
EMHS Clubs Fair
There are many ways to make friends and explore interests at Ernest Manning and joining one of our 30 clubs is an example. We are looking forward to hosting our annual Clubs Fair Wednesday, September 24 and Thursday September 25 at noon on Main Street as well as during the High School Orientation on Thursday evening. This is an opportunity for students to promote and join clubs they are interested in.
To propose a new club, students begin by meeting with AP Ms. Waringer to discuss the club proposal.
November Diploma Exam Writing
We will once again be running Diploma Exams this November in cooperation with Western Canada High School. Exams will be offered in the following way:
Manning: Social, Chemistry, Physics, Science
Western: ELA, Math, Biology
Students who have completed Diploma courses but have not written their Diploma exam for the course, can use this form to indicate their interest in writing an exam in November. Students CANNOT write a diploma exam until they have completed the course.
