Greetings Griffin Families,

We look forward to our first opportunity of the year to host new and returning students and families to spend a “day in the life” of your child during our High School Orientation this Thursday evening. Doors will open at 5 pm with our outstanding Culinary Arts Program catering the event with appetizers and dessers from 5 pm to 6 pm, after which we will gather in the gym for formal greetings from admin and introductions from learning leaders of the various departments. From 6:30 to 8 pm folks will have an opportunity to follow the daily schedule of their child from Periods 1-4, getting to know the teachers as well as important course and classroom information. As a complement to all of the detailed information on our website, below are some highlights of upcoming activities at EMHS.

EMTV Weekly Rundown

The EM DAILY broadcast is a student-led showcase of events and celebrations happening in our school.  This on-demand program will begin airing in period 1 or 2 classes next Monday, September 23 with a commitment to increase and share student voice and school community. On Fridays, a highlight reel of the week’s events, the EM DAILY Weekly Rundown will be shared with our Griffin community.

Work Experience / Dual Credit

Work experience and dual credit programs are great opportunities for students to blend credits from the world of work and their other high school courses. Work experience allows students to receive credits for hours worked at a part-time job or volunteering. Dual credit programs assist students in making meaningful transitions to post-secondary education or the workplace.

Language Course Challenge

Grade 12 students interested in participating in the fall round of the Language Course Challenge please attend the information meeting on Wednesday, Oct 2 in the Learning Commons at lunch. Students must hand in permission forms to the office by Oct 11.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

There will be no school on Monday, September 30. Orange Shirt Day will be recognized on Thursday, September 26. EMHS Leadership students have organized educational activities for students recognizing the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

Terry Fox Recognition

EMHS Leadership class have organized a fundraiser “Toonies for Terry” from now until October 1 for cancer research. Sports Performance classes will be running to commemorate Terry’s Marathon of Hope. For more information, click here.
