EMHS WEEKLY RUNDOWN JUNE 8-12
Greetings Griffin Families,
Well, this is it. The final week of regular classes and a short week at that. There are only TWO more days of the normal timetable, after which teachers move into credit recovery and final assessment mode. This means that for most grade 10 students, Tuesday will be your last day at school unless you are at risk of not succeeding in your courses. Make the most of the resources your teachers are offering so you can finish the year strong and set yourself up for future success.
For grades 11 and 12, besides the credit recovery opportunities shared by your teachers, you will continue with final assessment preparation and final exams.
Whether your child will finish on the 9th or after, we wish to take this opportunity to wish all our students a great final few weeks of June, and productive and positive choices in your downtime. Student schedules for the 2026/27 school year will be available for viewing in PowerSchool on August 12.
As a complement to all of the detailed information available on the Ernest Manning High School website, here is this week’s rundown.

CULINARY ARTS
As food service has finished for the school year, we extend our gratitude to Chefs Champ, Peña, as well as Chef Jillian and Chef Robert, for all their dedication to students in the Culinary Arts Program, and for feeding so many students and staff members with your delicious offerings every day.
This week the final catering of the year will take place, where those involved in the Athletic Awards Banquet will have the opportunity to savour the last tasty bites of the 2025/26 year. What was your favourite Culinary Arts meal?
BOOK RETURN
Time to return all textbooks, novels and library resources to the learning commons, or on the carts provided at the entrance to the school during the exam break. All resources are due back by June 26th. Failure to do so will result in unnecessary charges to your CBE account.
EMHS STUDENT FIRST AID COURSE
Students will have the opportunity to complete a first aid course that will certify them in basic first aid/CPR/ AED and earn a high school credit for their work. This Course will run for the full day of Wednesday June 24th 2026 9am-4pm. In addition to the in-class portion there is also some online course work that needs to be completed prior to the the 23rd in order to do the in person section. This will be sent to the email address you specify below.
The Cost of the Course is $105 which will be added to your PowerSchool. This is completely OPTIONAL however, it can be helpful for students applying to summer jobs and also helpful in case of an unexpected emergency. If you would like your child to complete this course please fill out the following form. The first 30 students to be signed up will be selected and you will receive a follow-up email shortly. This form will close on June 10th. If your student is not selected as one of the first 30 I will also inform you.
Thanks! Jessica Bateman jebateman@cbe.ab.ca

JUNE FINAL EXAM INFORMATION
FINAL EXAM SCHEDULE
As a reminder, the last day of official classes is June 9. Final exams for Grade 10 students occur before June 9, during regular class time. June 10-19, teachers prioritize opportunities for continued learning and reassessment for ALL students. While attendance is not mandatory, teachers proactively reach out to all students to inform them of these opportunities:
- Credit rescue;
- Targeted support or intervention;
- Targeted assistance with assignment completion for specific outcomes.
Here is the final exam schedule for June 2026.
Students writing Diploma exams are advised to check their MyPass account to ensure they are registered for exams they wish to write. MyPass will tell them what exam they are writing, as well as the day/ time and location. If students have questions regarding Diploma Exams, they may check with their advisor in Student Services, or with Ms. Waringer.
🟢 What to Bring to all finals
- Valid Photo ID: Your school ID, driver's license, or passport. The supervisors must verify who you are before you sit down.
- Approved Calculator: For math and science diplomas. Make sure it is an approved model (like standard TI-84 Plus or Casio series) and that the memory is completely cleared before you enter.
- Pens and Pencils: Bring HB pencils for the bubble sheets (multiple-choice) and blue or black ink pens if you are writing a written response.
- An Eraser and Sharpener: High-quality erasers save you from messy, smudged bubble sheets that scanners might misread.
- A Clear Water Bottle: Most exam centers allow water, but the bottle usually has to be completely clear with the label peeled off.
- Snacks in a clear bag/ container: enough food to stave off hunger pangs for up to 6 hours
🔴 What NOT to Bring to finals
- Cell Phones, Smartwatches: This is the big one. Even if it's turned off in your pocket, having it on your person can result in an immediate invalidation of your exam. Leave them in your locker or the coat check-in area in the cafeteria.
- Any Unauthorized Notes: No scrap paper, cheat sheets, or formula sheets. If the exam requires a data booklet or formula sheet, it will be provided to you.
- Calculator Covers: You usually have to leave the plastic slide-cover for your calculator in your locker or backpack.
- Headphones or Earbuds: No music allowed during the exam, as it's considered a potential security risk.
- Hoodies/Jackets/ Hats: please leave these items in your car, locker or in coat check in the cafeteria.
Pro Tip: Arrive at least 15 to 20 minutes before the official start time. Getting flustered because you're rushing is the easiest way to spike your test anxiety!
LIMITED COAT CHECK – please note that we will have limited coat check availability for backpacks/ hoodies/ cell phones this year due to some unforeseen staffing shortages. Students should make pre-arrangements for their belongings as much as possible.
Diploma Preparation Sessions
For students writing Diploma Exams this June, our amazing teachers have set up Diploma Prep sessions for you free of charge😊If you have any questions regarding diploma preparation, please consult with your favourite teacher of that subject.
