Ernest Manning Weekly Rundown
Nov 10 - Nov 14
Good morning Griffins!
As we head into this Fall Break with both students and teachers preparing for the remainder of the semester ahead, we wish to highlight the efforts of our Broadcast Journalism students on their Remembrance Day program, featuring Manning’s own Biology Teacher Ms. Kocot, who also serves as the Commanding Officer of HCMS Tecumseh right here in Calgary. We encourage you to watch the program in its entirety, using the link below, and to attend Remembrance Day Ceremonies on November 11 in your community as you are able.
As a complement to the detailed information found on the EMHS website, we present the weekly rundown.

SCHOOL COUNCIL CONNECTIONS

CULINARY ARTS MENU
Due to our Fall Break, we will have lunch service upon students’ return:
Thursday, November 13
Breaded Chicken Burger – Caesar Dressing, Romaine Lettuce, Tomato, Mozzarella with Fries
In addition there are always many sandwiches, salads, snacks and sweet treats, all prepared by our Culinary Arts students.
SEMESTER ONE DATES AND TIMELINES
Our Term 1 courses will end on Friday, November 21, with Term Two courses beginning on Monday November 24. While most courses are a full semester-long, we will nonetheless have report cards associated with all courses, so parents have opportunities to consult with teachers on their child’s current progress through Parent-Teacher conferences. In addition, given that January Diploma Exams are cancelled this year (see below for details), instruction will continue through January to the end of the Semester.
JANUARY DIPLOMA EXAMS UPDATE
To ensure students and teachers can concentrate on learning after lost instructional time due to the teacher strike, Alberta’s government has cancelled the January 2026 diploma examinations and Grade 9 Provincial Achievement Tests (PATs). Students will be automatically exempted.
Students who choose not to write at a later date will receive their school-awarded mark as their final official course mark. A notation will be added to transcripts confirming that no diploma exam was written. This ensures there is no impact on students’ ability to graduate or transition into post-secondary programs.
Students may choose to write January diploma exams in April or June 2026. For those choosing to write the January diploma exam, a QR code will be posted on the screens around the building. For questions related to diploma exams, students can see AP Ms. Waringer.
PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES
We look forward to the next opportunity to host our families during Parent Teacher Conferences:
Thursday, November 27 – 5-8 pm IN-PERSON
Friday, November 28 – 9am – noon ONLINE through TEAMS
To book appointments with your child’s teachers, Conference Manager will be open on Friday, November 14, starting at 4 pm.
