Whether cheering on Team Canada or enjoying the break from the cold temperatures by venturing outdoors, we hope your weekend has been a good one. As we enter the final week of February, we would like to remind to that the weekly rundown presented here is a complement to all the detailed information found on the EMHS website

As we turn the page to March, we welcome everyone to another full week of classes, clubs and extra-curricular commitments. We also wish our Robotics Teams the best of outcomes as they compete in Vancouver later this week, where the long days, sandwich crumbs and sawdust since January will all have been worth it.    As a complement to all the detailed information found on the Ernest Manning High School website, here is your Weekly Rundown for March 2-6.

THURSDAY MARCH 19 FLEX AND SPEED MENTORING DAY 

Thursday, March 19 will be a Flex Day for students. Teachers prioritize opportunities for continued learning and reassessment for students. While attendance is not mandatory, teachers proactively reach out to all students to inform them of these opportunities:  

  • Credit rescue;  
  • Targeted support or intervention;  
  • Targeted assistance with assignment completion for specific outcomes.   

We will also be hosting our first-ever Speed Mentoring Day, an opportunity for students to sign up for various Q&A sessions with YOU and folks like you – to ask questions about your chosen career path. If you would still like to participate as a mentor you may do so until Friday, March 6 using this link.  

CULINARY ARTS 

In addition to all the freshly-made sandwiches, salads and sweet treats, the chefs and students have the following hot menu planned for this week: 

Monday, March 2: Loaded Beef Lasagna, Caesar Salad, Garlic Bread 

Tuesday, March 3: Taco Bowl - Braised Beef, Mexican Rice, Lettuce, Tomato, Cheddar Cheese, Salsa, Sour Cream in a Fried Taco Bowl 

Wednesday, March 4: Grilled Chicken Alfredo, Garden Salad 

Thursday, March 5: Breaded Chicken Burger with Bacon, Caesar Dressing and Fries 

ALBERTA ASSURANCE SURVEY – GRADE 10 PARENTS 

As part of our ongoing commitment to providing a world-class education for Alberta’s children, Alberta Education and Childcare will be conducting our annual survey of grade 10 students and their parents or guardians. The survey will gather important information about students’ and  parents’ school experiences and will help to inform continuous improvement in our education system. 

 EMHS parents would have received an email from the province with their unique code and link to the survey. Please complete the survey by March 6th, 2026. 

PARENT COUNCIL CONNECTIONS 

This is a reminder of our next meeting of School Council and Parent Advisory Committee, taking place on Wednesday, March 18, both virtually and in-person. Please use this link to register. At this meeting, we will also be sharing information about school planning and asking you to share your perspectives. You will have the opportunity to learn about: 

  • School planning, which includes the school development plan, school budget and school fees 
  • How the school development plan sets the overall focus and direction for a school to improve student learning outcomes 
  • How the school budget provides funding to implement our school development plan 
  • School fees and why they are necessary 

STUDENT SERVICES SNAPSHOT 

Grade 10 and 11 Course Selection Presentation 

Student Services will be holding a presentation for Grade 10 and 11 students on March 3rd. This presentation will go over how to select courses for the 2026-27 school year as well as how to check pre-requisites and pathways. It is extremely important that your child attend. 

Tuesday March 3rd: 

  • Grade 10 presentation will be during the first block, students will be brought down by their teachers 
  • Grade 11 presentation will be after lunch (3rd block) 

Locations will be announced in the morning of March 3rd via intercom.

GRADUATION UPDATES  

EMHS Grad Tickets 

The 2026 Ernest Manning Graduation ceremony and banquet will both take place on Monday, May 11 at the BMO Centre. Grad rehearsal will take place Thursday, May 7 in the gym. Graduating students will miss afternoon classes. 

Grad Ceremony FREE tickets – Forms will be sent out March 16th (Due April 6) 

Grad Banquet Ticket Sales - Round One (opens March 16th), Round Two (opens March 30th) 

Further details including banquet ticket prices will be announced as plans for graduation evolve. Stay tuned.  

GRADitude Project 

Graduation is a kind of a big deal.  

We’re here to make getting ready for it easier. 

We provide free graduation dresses, suits and personal care items to Grade 12 students, ensuring they can enjoy their big day with confidence, no matter their financial situation. 

Graduate Registration 

To Participate: If you’re a soon to be Grade 12 graduate who would like to participate in this fabulous free event, complete the Graduate Registration Form. Spaces are limited, so sign up early to avoid disappointment. 

GRADitude is held during one weekend in March and April. Participants can register for any one of those dates.

The Big Band Gala is Ernest Manning Music's biggest event of the year, supporting the cost of festivals, tours, clinics, and band camps.

Basketball

Wrestling 

  • Our EM wrestling team competed at the City Championship on Friday, February 27th! Congratulations to all our wrestlers on a fantastic season. We will be able to share results in next week's edition of the EMHS rundown. 

Field Hockey 

  • Field hockey tryout information meeting will be held on Wednesday March 4 in Room 2305 @ noon. 

Football 

We are excited to launch our 2026 lottery ticket style fundraiser! As you know, operating a football program is extremely expensive. This year we had 110 football players in the program, which is amazing. However, the cost of equipping 110 players is a challenge and we need your help! 

The prizes for the fundraiser are $500, $1000, and $1500 gift cards to the winners' choice of Air Canada or WestJet. Ticket packages are:
