EMHS WEEKLY RUNDOWN JUNE 1-5

Greetings Griffin Families,

This rainy Sunday welcomes the last full week of regular classes for the 2025/26 school year, and an important week for students to connect with teachers to ensure they are on track to finish off the school year successfully. For students close to but not quite passing a course, teachers will be extending invitations to parents letting them know of credit recovery opportunities occurring during the final exam period between June 10 and 19.

As a complement to all of the detailed information available on the Ernest Manning High School website, here is this week’s rundown.

EMHS AWARDS

Each year, the Ernest Manning High School community comes together to honour and celebrate the achievements, character, and contributions of our outstanding students. This year’s Awards Ceremony will take place on Wednesday, June 3rd from 6 to 8 pm and  highlights the diverse ways our Griffins strive for excellence academically, personally, and within our school community.

Among our highest academic honours is the Griffin Scholar Award, presented to students with an exceptional 95% or higher overall average in their coursework at Ernest Manning. This award reflects our scholars' dedication, discipline, and pursuit of academic excellence.

We also take great pride in recognizing students in each grade who exemplify the core values of our school through the following special awards:

  • Griffin Grit – Honouring students who demonstrate resilience, perseverance, and an unwavering commitment to personal growth.
  • Griffin Heart – Celebrating those who lead with empathy, kindness, and compassion, making our school a more inclusive and caring place.
  • Griffin Trailblazer – Recognizing students who lead with vision and courage, taking initiative to create positive change in our school and beyond.

This evening is a celebration of who we are as a community—resilient, compassionate, driven, and united in our pursuit of excellence.

Students and families will receive personalized email invitations to the event at the end of May.

In addition to our formal awards, students who achieve an overall average of 80% or higher in their courses at Ernest Manning will receive an Honours Certificate in recognition of their consistent hard work and academic success. Students will receive their certificates on June 9th after school.

JUNE FINAL EXAM INFORMATION

Students writing Diploma exams are advised to check their MyPass account to ensure they are registered for exams they wish to write. MyPass will tell them what exam they are writing, as well as the day/ time and location. If students have questions regarding Diploma Exams, they may check with their advisor in Student Services, or with Ms. Waringer.

🟢 What to Bring

  • Valid Photo ID: Your school ID, driver's license, or passport. The supervisors must verify who you are before you sit down.
  • Approved Calculator: For math and science diplomas. Make sure it is an approved model (like standard TI-84 Plus or Casio series) and that the memory is completely cleared before you enter.
  • Pens and Pencils: Bring HB pencils for the bubble sheets (multiple-choice) and blue or black ink pens if you are writing a written response.
  • An Eraser and Sharpener: High-quality erasers save you from messy, smudged bubble sheets that scanners might misread.
  • A Clear Water Bottle: Most exam centers allow water, but the bottle usually has to be completely clear with the label peeled off.
  • Snacks in a clear bag/ container: enough food to stave off hunger pangs for up to 6 hours

🔴 What NOT to Bring

  • Cell Phones, Smartwatches: This is the big one. Even if it's turned off in your pocket, having it on your person can result in an immediate invalidation of your exam. Leave them in your locker or the coat check-in area in the cafeteria.
  • Any Unauthorized Notes: No scrap paper, cheat sheets, or formula sheets. If the exam requires a data booklet or formula sheet, it will be provided to you.
  • Calculator Covers: You usually have to leave the plastic slide-cover for your calculator in your locker or backpack.
  • Headphones or Earbuds: No music allowed during the exam, as it's considered a potential security risk.
  • Jackets/ Hats: please leave these items in your car, locker or in coat check in the cafeteria.

Pro Tip: Arrive at least 15 to 20 minutes before the official start time. Getting flustered because you're rushing is the easiest way to spike your test anxiety!

Diploma Preparation Sessions

For students writing Diploma Exams this June, our amazing teachers have set up Diploma Prep sessions for you free of charge😊If you have any questions regarding diploma preparation, please consult with your favourite teacher of that subject.
