Welcome to the 2026–2027 School Year

On behalf of the staff at Ernest Manning High School, I am pleased to welcome students and families to a new school year. We are excited to reconnect with returning students and extend a warm welcome to those who are joining our community for the first time. The year ahead will offer countless opportunities for students to learn, grow, and become involved both inside and outside the classroom. Together, we look forward to supporting students as they pursue their goals, explore new interests, and make lasting memories.

A strong partnership between home and school is essential to student success. We are committed to maintaining open communication and providing families with the information needed to support their child's learning experience. To help prepare for the year ahead, I encourage all parents and guardians to review the following important resources:

These documents help support consistent and transparent communication and reinforce a shared focus on student learning.

As a school community, we continue to develop Ernest Manning High School into a vibrant campus model where students learn in ways that best suit their interests, spaces, and preferred learning styles. For those seeking academic enrichment, we offer a wide range of Advanced Placement (AP) courses that allow students to dive deeper into subjects and potentially earn post-secondary credits. Additionally, through the CBE’s Unique Pathways Partnerships, students can pursue dual credit opportunities—earning both high school and post-secondary credits while exploring future career pathways. Beyond the classroom, we encourage all students to become active members of our school community by participating in clubs, athletic teams, fine arts programs and leadership opportunities. Getting involved helps students build connections, develop new skills and create a stronger sense of belonging. Research consistently shows that students who feel connected to their school community are more likely to experience both personal and academic success. We hope every student takes the opportunity to explore their interests, discover new passions and find meaningful ways to get involved.

Parents and guardians are also invited to take an active role in our school through School Council or other volunteer opportunities. Details about how to get involved will be shared in the coming days, please stay tuned.

Parent Reminders

Parent(s)/guardian(s) are reminded of the following safety and logistical considerations that support our collective work.  These reminders include:

·        Contacting the school regarding student absences, late arrivals, and required early dismissals at ernestmanning@cbe.ab.ca. Please make sure you put the students name, the time they are arriving/leaving, if or when they will return and the reason they will not be attending.  Educational research consistently demonstrates that one of the most significant predictors of student success is consistent attendance. As a school community, we also understand that there are times when issues arise that prevent consistent attendance and will work with our families to mitigate these challenges to ensure continued academic success.

·        All parents/guardians are required to sign in at our Main Office before entering the building during our regular school day.

·        All parents/guardians are asked to be mindful of the City of Calgary traffic and by-laws directly surrounding the school. This request is meant to mitigate traffic safety concerns around our building. The school administration encourages parent(s)/guardian(s) and students to explore alternative drop-off/pick-up locations away from the school. Families are also asked not to use the Westside Recreation Centre’s parking space, as this impacts their ability to support their clients.

·        To ensure that all students' demographic information is up-to-date and correct so that the school can contact you promptly. New Demographic forms will appear in your MyCBE Parent portal at the beginning of each school year.

·        Where possible, please refrain from texting or contacting your student via cellphone during class time, as this may disrupt the learning of others. We ask that parent(s)/guardian(s) contact the Main Office, which can then relay any important messages to your student.

English as an Additional Language (EAL) Orientation

We are pleased to welcome our new English as an Additional Language (EAL) students to Ernest Manning High School on Monday, August 24th. This orientation is for students who are new to Canada and are registered through the CBE Welcome Centre, as well as EAL transfer students from schools outside of the Calgary Board of Education. This day will begin with a welcome orientation from 9:30-10:30am, followed by a school tour from 10:45-11:45am. A parent or guardian is welcome to join their child for these two portions of the day to help support their transition. At 12:30-3:00pm, students will complete some proficiency testing. Parents are invited to return at 3:00pm to pick up their child once testing concludes. Please complete the following form by August 19 to confirm your child’s attendance.

Student Photos/Identification

Lifetouch Photography will be taking student photos for identified grade cohorts from 9:00am until 3:00pm:

·        Wednesday August 26, 2026 | Grade 10 students

·        Thursday, August 27, 2026 | Grade 11 & 12 students

·        Wednesday, September 2, 2026 | Photo Catch-up day (all grades)

·        Friday, October 16, 2026 | Photo Re-take day

Student identification cards are important for students to have prior to the start of the school year as we use them to support the sign-out of textbooks and other educational resources. 

Parking Passes

Student Parking Pass Information 2026–27

Online parking pass applications open Monday, August 17 at 9:00 a.m. for students with a valid Class 5 driver’s license only (Class 7 licenses will not be accepted). To apply, complete the Google Form linked below. You will need to upload a photo of your Class 5 license and a completed copy of the 2026–27 Parking Permit Letter. Be sure to have both documents ready before submitting the form.

After your application is accepted you will be able to add the $45.00 parking fee to your account and this must be paid along with all other outstanding fees prior to pick up of the pass. 

Unpaid passes will be cancelled after September 7, 2026, and reassigned to students on the waitlist.

Pass pickup begins on Wednesday, August 26 after 9:00 a.m. from the business office.

Student Timetables & Course Change Reminders

Student timetables are visible on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, in PowerSchool.  If a student wishes to request a change to their timetable or request a semester one CBe-Learn online course, please use the following link: Course change request form – Fall 2026.  This link will go live on August 12, 2026, on our website as well as the link above. Please read the directions carefully to ensure your advisor has the necessary information to assist you.  As there is a high volume of requests at this time of the year, advisors can only be contacted using this form (you can either use a gmail.com or educbe.ca to access the form) and priority will be placed on semester one changes only at this time. Please be aware that teachers may change until the first day of classes. Advisors will be looking at requests based on the date they were entered.  Completed requests can be viewed on PowerSchool after August 28, 2026. Advisors will not be able to email individual students about completed requests. We encourage all students to discuss both their timetable and any changes they wish to request with their families prior to them requesting. Please continue to check PowerSchool in the coming weeks as schedules will continue to change.

It is highly suggested that students check their timetables again the night before the first day of school to ensure they know where their classrooms are. Student Call-Downs for certain changes will happen starting September 1, 2026 by grade and surname. Email requests cannot be processed; please ensure students use the form. One form accommodates multiple requests. Please use the same form for CBE Learn requests for Semester 1 as well.

Student Advisors will be available to meet with students face-to-face on the following dates based on a set call-down schedule:

  • Tuesday September 1, 2026, | Grade 12s will be called down alphabetically for any outstanding timetables changes
  • Wednesday September 2, 2026, | Grade 11’s/Grade 10s will be called down alphabetically for any outstanding timetable changes

All students can access their Student Advisor starting Tuesday September 8, 2026. Prior to this, please fill out the Course Change Request form or wait to be called down.

Monday August 31st - First Day of School Schedule

To support student transition back to school on Monday August 31st, 2026, we will be using the following modified schedule to welcome back grade cohorts:

  • Grade 10 Students: Arrive at 8:52am and meet in the Main Gymnasium for a welcome assembly. Print out your timetable and bring it to the assembly (alternatively you can access your timetable on your phone). Dismissal time is 3:31pm.
  • Grade 11 Students: Arrive at 10:30am and meet in the Main Gymnasium for welcome assembly. After the assembly it will be a regular Thursday schedule for the rest of the day. Please check your PowerSchool for your timetable. Dismissal time is 3:31pm.
  • Grade 12 Students: Arrive at 11:35am and meet in the Main Gymnasium for welcome assembly. After the assembly it will be a regular Thursday schedule for the rest of the day. Please check your PowerSchool for your timetable. Dismissal time is 3:31pm.

Please note that school cafeteria will not be open until Monday, September 14, 2026.

The school store EMPower will open on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.

Unique Pathways & Off-Campus Education

The CBE collaborates with post-secondary institutions, industry partners and community organizations to offer a wide range of unique opportunities for students. These range from practical, hands-on learning experiences in Exploratory programs to Dual Credit courses and programs that allow students to participate in post-secondary learning with the support of a supervising CBE teacher. These programs enable students to complete high school their own way and set students up for future success by easing the transition to post-secondary learning and/or the workplace.

Ernest Manning Athletics

At Ernest Manning High School, our athletics program is built on community and culture. We strive to create an environment where student-athletes are supported by coaches, teachers, teammates, and peers helping them succeed in sport, academics, and the broader school community. Most of our teams are led by in-school coaches who not only bring strong knowledge of their sport but also serve as positive role models. These coaches play a vital role in developing the character and skills of our athletes, ensuring they reach their full potential both on the field and in the classroom.
