Welcome

On behalf of the staff at Ernest Manning High School, I would like to welcome all students and their families to the upcoming 2024-2025 school year. We are incredibly excited to welcome back our returning students and connect with our new ones. This year offers a wealth of opportunities for each student to grow academically, socially, and emotionally. Let us collectively embrace the challenges, celebrate the successes, and cherish the moments that shape each student’s learning journey.

At the core of our work is a commitment to building strong partnerships with parents and guardians and providing timely and important information. I strongly encourage all parents to familiarize themselves with our CBE Assessment and Reporting guidelines, the Parent Communication Cheat Sheet (which will be sent out closer to the start of the new school year), the Calgary Board of Education’s Administrative Regulation 6005 (Student Code of Conduct), and Administrative Regulation 6006 (Progressive Discipline). Our goal is to create consistent messaging that supports and enhances student learning.

As a school community, we continue to develop Ernest Manning High School into a true campus model, where students engage in learning through their preferred place, space, and style. Students looking to challenge themselves further are encouraged to explore our extensive Advanced Placement (AP) course offerings. AP courses provide an opportunity to study curriculum in greater depth and potentially earn post-secondary credits. Additionally, students can take advantage of our dual credit opportunities through the Calgary Board of Education’s Unique Pathways Partnerships. These partnerships allow students to earn both high school and post-secondary credits while exploring future areas of interest. For more information about dual credit opportunities, please contact our Student Services Team.

Lastly, in our upcoming conversations with students, we will emphasize the importance of 'getting involved' in extracurricular clubs, teams, and organizations. This includes students trying out for athletic teams, joining clubs, and becoming active in our school’s extensive extracurricular opportunities. In addition to consistent school attendance, educational research also demonstrates that students who actively engage in these types of opportunities exhibit a greater sense of belonging and connection to their school. This stronger connection ultimately results in improved academic performance. Therefore, I highly encourage your student to seize these opportunities throughout the school year.

Parent(s)/guardian(s) are also encouraged to become involved in our school community through our School Council or other volunteer opportunities. Further information about how parent(s)/guardian(s) can volunteer will be provided in the coming days. Please stay tuned.

In conclusion, we eagerly anticipate connecting with all our students and their parent(s)/guardian(s) as we embark on our new and exciting 2024-2025 learning journey. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me personally or our Assistant Principals: Tiffany Coles (last names A-G), Heather Hood (last names H-M), or Joan Waringer (last names N-Z) throughout the year

We look forward to a successful and enriching school year ahead.

Sincerely,

Mike Wilson – Principal
