Dear Parents and Students,

The Ernest Manning Leadership in the Arts Program welcomes you to a night of performance and celebration of the talent and accomplishments of the Ernest Manning Fine Arts Program! From 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 25, 2024, parents and students of the Ernest Manning Community are invited to come to Ernest Manning to check out the various projects that our art students have worked on throughout the school year.

Featured programs include:

Blue Jazz Band

This ensemble is composed of students in grade 10 currently enrolled in the Jazz Studies 15 program. During rehearsal, this group develops skills for improvisation, small ensemble performance, and understanding of jazz.

Gold Jazz Band

This ensemble consists of grade 11 students enrolled in Jazz Studies 25 and Grade 12 students enrolled in Jazz Studies 35. This ensemble aims to develop jazz technique for playing, improvisation proficiency, and develop a deeper understanding and appreciation for jazz.

Drama

Drama is an interactive program that allows students to develop performance and theatre skills by studying various disciplines like movement, speech, and acting. As students in this program progress into their higher years, more intricate aspects of theatre such as character work and script analysis are introduced. These acquired skills and knowledge build up to an independent directing project where the student will produce a one-act play for public presentation known as lunch box theatre.

Film and Broadcasting

In film, students explore the artistic and cultural significance of film, television, and video. From pre-production to post-production, including live broadcasts and single-camera shoots, students gain hands-on experience. These opportunities equip students with skills in concept design, planning, and idea communication, culminating in a portfolio for film festivals and post-secondary admissions.

Fine Arts

The Fine Arts program introduces students to fundamental artistic techniques and principles, which are applied to drawing, painting, and sculpting. As students progress through the program, an emphasis on flexibility and independence in art-creation is placed. For instance, students are required to complete a portfolio that features their artistic styles in preparation for post-secondary endeavours.
