Annual Veterans Association Food Drive

Written by Amaan H, Ernest Manning Television

As the Veterans Association Food Drive takes place at Ernest Manning, students are asked to bring in non-perishable food items and place them in one of the many cardboard bins around the school. The Association is currently in urgent need of Canned Meats, Chili, and Mushrooms as well as Cereal, and Laundry soap. A larger list of needed items can be found on their website.

The Veterans Association Food Bank (VAFB) began in 2018 to help create a support system for Veterans, their families, and First Responders. Unlike other charities, VAFB focuses on providing one on one care for each veteran. This means that regardless of their situation all veterans are welcome to receive services and work with team members to create a plan that best suits their needs.

The association provides more than just food services, they also provide financial assistance, group therapy, clothing, and a place where other veterans can connect. Supporting veterans is essential as we recognize their sacrifices taken in order to ensure and protect our freedom.

Aliyah, a Grade 12 student at Ernest Manning says:

“I think it is important we show support for our veterans because they have risked their lives for the sake of our nation. They also tend to face difficulties when it comes to readjusting to civilian life after extended periods of times at war. It is only fair that we try and ease that transition for them by helping, whether through volunteering or donating.”

Contributions to the drive are appreciated regardless of how large or small items may be.
